Frequently Asked Questions

Guardianship of your children

If you have young children or children who are incapable of looking after themselves you will probably wish to appoint someone to look after them after the death of both yourself and your spouse. On your death your husband or wife will automatically become the guardian of your children unless you wish to provide otherwise. A close friend or relative may be appointed as guardian together with your spouse only in special circumstances. You should, of course, discuss the question of guardianship at length with your friends and relatives and ensure that the persons you propose to appoint will be prepared to take on such a responsibility.
